Zambla mule to Low – Location Gremsulì and Ca’ Res

DEPARTURE Over the Hill – B&B Casa Dolce Casa

TIME 2h30/3h complessive: go back

N.B. Better equip themselves to boots or shoes with Gore-tex because you cross the streams!

The walk takes place in 2 party:

  • of OVER THE HILL a Zambla LOW
  • of Zambla LOW to the GREMSULì and CA’ OF RES

It starts from Beyond the Hill and reach the gas station; from there continue on the road to Zorzone for about 250 m until you reach a crossroads: turn right and take the path Pandughetto.

It borders the playground and the Villa Felli until you reach a small group of houses. Keeping to the right, take a dirt road: begins the path that leads to Zambla Low, once only way of connecting with Beyond the Hill.

Murder on the Old Mill Home

After having submitted the forest meets a first stream, very easy to pass through. After crossing the stream, proceed on the dirt road until you are faced with a bifurcation: must keep to the left. The road becomes a path and go down to another stream. This is bigger but has high difficulty nell'attraversarlo. It should however be cautious: looking upstream at a point where the stream descends closer and before you put your foot on the stones make sure they are stable enough and not too slippery. When you started the trip lever on the first stone on which you lean on others and proceed rapidly to the shore. This is my advice, If you prefer you can also cross the stream on the seabed.

After crossing the creek the trail again. If you look closely, on the left, you see a stone house in ruins: This was once a mill, in fact the mule is commonly called “the trail of the old mill”. My grandmother tells me that a girl started from Zorzone, where she lived, and went to the mill to grind 1 the 2 kg of wheat that were grown in fields close to home, from which it was extracted white flour.

Gremsulì

Along the way you can stop at the Madonna del Rosario Santella.

From here on, the trail climbs until you get near a house and out of the woods. Take the concrete road to a small barn on the left. Behind this barn begins a path from which you see on the right another Santella, Mary Queen of Peace, while on the left down in the meadow and leads to the village Gremsulì, an old, but wonderful district of Lower Zambla. Here is another Santella dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary. Besides this small village continues, more or less the same altitude, the path through the meadows until another old district: As’ Res. Today, these lands are a little’ neglected and mostly uninhabited, but my grandmother recalls that were once populated. If you see it, do not believe, but Ca’ Res lived there about 30-35 people.

As' Res

Along the route between the two villages to admire the country and you can see the bottom Zorzone Valley Ca’ Chalky, where is the entrance to the mines of’ Arera.

From Ca’ Res is back up into the forest and in the center of Lower Zambla, near the church of Our Lady of Sorrows. We head towards the big church and take the road down which shows the track dell'andata. It traces the trail in the opposite direction in addition to the Hill.
